Five Lame Excuses Keeping You From Making A Career Change, Part 2 I lately posted on Forbes about 5 lame excuses keeping you from making a career change, and it was based mostly on justifications I hear over and over again from people who say they aspire to do something new but don’t comply with by way of to make this happen. You most likely know the favored excuses â€" I don’t know where to start out, I can’t afford the pay minimize, it’s too late, I don’t have sufficient time, it won’t work out anyway â€" that doom individuals before they even try. However, there are much more excuses that pop up. Here are five extra excuses keeping you from making a career change. Are you guilty of any of these? It’s too quickly to make a change In my Forbes publish, I wrote about wannabe career changers who fear it’s too late to make a change. The flip facet is that some folks concern it’s too quickly! You fear you haven’t given a gallant enough effort at that job you hate. You worry that you'll be perceived as uncommitted. You worry that yo u don’t have sufficient expertise to build on. Turn this worry on its head, and be grateful that you simply rapidly identified you’re sad. Rather than see this is lack of commitment, commit to your profession change and doing something you really care about. Instead of lamenting you don’t have enough experience, be glad that you just didn’t make investments an excessive amount of time and effort right into a field you not need. My family, pals and/or vital different gained’t let me People who care could seem unsupportive as a result of they are worried about your prospects â€" this isn’t misguided as profession change takes work. Loved ones might concern that changing your mind about career could result in changing your mind about them. Or perhaps they’re jealous that you simply’re taking action on something they thought of too however never did. Whatever the explanation you aren’t getting support from family, friends, companion, etc., it probably appears cheap to them, and it probably isn’t for lack of caring about you. It’s higher in your profession change anyway to be leaning on folks in your new area â€" they know the way issues get carried out and can give you higher recommendation. They are doing what you need to achieve this can provide you inspiration. They are active within the field and might more realistically allow you to. Focus on your new community, not convincing your old one. My resume received’t let me Like ready for your loved ones and pals to get on board, too many aspiring career changers hope their resume can massaged or refined enough to help their new field. But a resume is a backward-trying doc so if you put all your expertise on it and it sounds like your old career, which of course it'll, you get discouraged, and you surrender on your profession change as a result of your resume simply isn’t aggressive for your new profession. Your resume isn't what is maintaining you from a profession change. A resume is how ever one step in a job search, a resume is only one marketing tool of many.. Your resume gained’t sell you correctly on your future profession as a result of it’s about what you probably did up to now. There are other more highly effective steps to take than sending out a resume. I don’t wish to go back to high school Just like you shouldn’t assume you have to take a pay cut to vary careers, don’t assume you have to return to highschool either. Graduate college, certifications, classes and conferences are all helpful for a profession change but not conditions. Whether or not to go to grad college is separate from whether or not or not you wish to change careers. I actually have invested too much in my present career already With individuals residing longer, careers are invariably longer. You may spend a long time in a single career and still have many years to go. Those initial years usually are not wasted â€" you developed expertise, gained expertise, constructed a commun ity, and hopefully had fun along the way in which. However, if the prospect of more years in your current profession doesn’t excite you, then have a look at what else you are able to do. You can always discover methods to leverage what you already invested in your earlier career in a new career. At the very least, your first career provides you perspective on what you don’t want going ahead. Between the Forbes post and this one, that’s ten lame excuses we coated that hopefully now not prevent you from making a career change. Are there any more you're battling with? Nutritionists on what you should never, ever eat in the office

Nutritionists on what you ought to never under any circumstance eat in the workplace Nutritionists on what you ought to never at any point eat in the workplace A lot of elements add to how you perform from the second you sign in until you offer buh-bye to the assistant. You know whether you consent to another brew over the hill, you'll most likely have a cerebral pain in the A.M. Or then again, in the event that you permit stalling to prevail upon commitment, you could be hustling with time as the opponent - and not exactly convey your best work. One of the most underestimated impacts on your morals, be that as it may, is food. Office settings are commonly helpful for peer pressure, particularly with plentiful bites and sweets around, making it simpler to tumble off your good dieting fleeting trend. In any case, as an examination found, in the event that you don't eat shrewdly, you won't be very as gainful and you guarantee progressively 'days off's away from your desk. Why are our nomming decisions so indispensable? As indicated by enrolled dietician and creator Tanya Zuckerbrot, MS, RD it is very basic: food is our body's fuel. In particul ar, glucose - the subsequent result of sugar digestion - goes about as the fuel for both our intentional and automatic exercises. Automatic exercises are our eyes flickering, our hearts thumping, taking in and out, and thinking carefully. Intentional exercises are the developments we decide to do, such as strolling, standing up, getting from guide A toward point B, she continues. To set yourself up for progress, maintain a strategic distance from these vitality depleting habits:Just having espresso for breakfastWe've all been there: the vehicle won't start, the little child is cutting a tooth, you have no spotless clothing … and you have an executive gathering in a half-hour. While sure, there be a portion of those awful days where espresso is the main A.M. food you possess energy for, enrolled dietitian and nutritionist Keith Ayoob proposes quitting any and all funny business about your morning meal plan. You ought to abstain from having just espresso, or an espresso with a donut, Danish or roll. Since these refined carbs will spike your blood glucose and the caffeine will invigorate insulin discharge, you'll be setting yourself up for a 11 a.m. crash.Instead, set your palette toward food that will give you energy: Greek yogurt or two eggs are pressed with protein. A bowl of entire grain or high-fiber oat with milk likewise works, he notes. In any event, snatching some string cheddar and an apple or banana to have with your espresso works, particularly when you're hurried. These additional items set aside no effort to get ready and are anything but difficult to toss into a satchel, handbag, or backpack.Overdoing it with proteinWhile protein has its advantages, in the event that you deny your assortment of different basics, you won't be on the highest point of your game. As Zuckerbrot clarifies, in case you're not eating carbs, your mental aptitude will endure and you could end up reaching a stopping point frequently.Eating protein alone won't avert hunger to rments until your next supper. Without enough starches, your glucose will drop leaving you feeling grouchy, eager and ailing in vitality. Essentially, no amusing to work with, she continues. To battle this, consider adding something to your protein nibble, similar to a high-fiber carb or a non-boring veggie that will leave you feeling more full more, however with a superior mentality. She recommends salmon with broiled broccoli or cauliflower as a go-to.A late morning vitality drinkRepeat after us (and Ayoob): No caffeinated drinks. Ever. The 'vitality' is for the most part just caffeine and possibly some additional sugar. I'm not a fan and don't suggest them, and 'vitality shots' are the most exceedingly terrible. Some are pressed with the caffeine of three cups of solid espresso, he clarifies. On the off chance that you need a 3 p.m. shot in the arm and you're not actually eager, he proposes a latte over a caffeinated drink for your wellbeing. This gives you some additional protein and obviously, some calcium alongside the shock of java.Downing organic product like it's no large dealIt is anything but difficult to eat, feels like no calories at all and fulfills your sweet tooth nearly as viably as the brownie you truly need. In any case, Zuckerbrot cautions to proceed with caution on the natural product area of the pyramid on the grounds that while wealthy in fiber, they are carbs and can make you feel a lessening in center, quick. To battle this, nibble astutely, and maybe, skirt your banana-a-day-propensities since they aren't exactly as satisfying as you might suspect with just a single gram of fiber.A banana is processed rapidly. This is incredible for a long distance runner who needs an abrupt explosion of vitality, not all that good for the work day when you need supported vitality, she proceeds. Choose higher fiber organic products like raspberries, blueberries, apples, pears, and kiwis and stick to one serving for each day with the goal that you are no t trying too hard on carbohydrates.Choosing granola as a snackZuckerbrot says to not let the names fool you: Granola isn't sound or all-characteristic … but instead, it's loaded with carbs, included sugar, and next to no fiber. Actually, a serving of granola is equal to two cuts of white bread!Instead, pick a high fiber oat, for example, Nature's Path Smart Bran and join it with plain Greek yogurt. This ideal combo of fiber and protein will keep glucose stable, advance enduring satiety and assist you with focusing on your work as opposed to on your thundering stomach, she clarifies.

Working remotely How to be the best virtual teammate

Working remotely How to be the best virtual teammate In this globalized, highly-connected world, as many as 50 million Americans â€" 40 percent of the workforce â€" work from home at least part of the time. Approximately 48 percent of all managers spend half of their week working remotely (from home or on the road). Studies reveal that those who work remotely are often more productive than their office-bound counterparts. When it comes to teams, though, the data tell a different story. In their 2001 study of 70 virtual teams, Vijay Govindarajan and Anil Gupta found that 82 percent of virtual teams fell short of their goals and 33 percent rated themselves as largely unsuccessful. Furthermore, a 2005 Deloitte study of IT projects outsourced to virtual work groups found that 66 percent failed to satisfy client requirements. So how do you balance the reality of increased virtual work with the drawbacks of teaming virtually? I spoke with Committed Teams authors Mario Moussa, Madeline Boyer and Derek Newberry about how you can be the best virtual teammate, a skill that will undoubtedly serve you well. Build trust early Trust is a key to success for any team, but for virtual teams trust is the glue that binds teammates together across distances and time zones. If people do not trust one another to deliver, they waste time on duplicate efforts, timelines are delayed, and creativity and innovation suffer. Boyer says that “as a virtual teammate you should capitalize early on swift trust â€" that benefit of the doubt we give people we’ve recently metâ€"and turn it into cognitive and affective trust.” Cognitive trust is the kind of trust the comes from knowing you’ll deliver, because you’ve developed a track record. Affective trust is the feeling that someone can trust you because they know you. Work equally hard early on to produce results and build relationships so that your teammates trust and value your presence on the team. Be explicit about expectations One of the biggest barriers to virtual teamwork is communication. Newberry says the solution is actually quite simple: “Be upfront and clear.” Let your teammates know what to expect from youâ€"how often you are available to have conference calls or video-chats, whether you prefer emails, texts, or voicemails, and what turnaround time they can expect from you on any given mode. “As explicit as, ‘If you send me a text I’ll get back to you within the hour, but I may take up to a day to respond to emailsâ€"so if it’s important, send me a quick text first’,” is what Newberry suggests. Check in frequently When you work on a team that is co-located, it’s easy to walk down the hall and pop in to Sally’s office to ask how she’s coming along with that report. Virtual teams don’t have the benefit (and psychological reassurance) of frequent face time. Moussa warns, “Managers tend to evaluate those working remotely less favorably than those in the office, simply because they see them less â€" even if their performance metrics are even.” When working on a virtual team, anxiety levels can rise when team members are not frequently checking in. Check in way more frequently than you normally would on a traditional team. Daily updates on where you stand on key deliverables may seem superfluous, but can go a long way towards positioning you as a star member of whatever team you’re on. While virtual teaming presents unique challenges to high performance, trends indicate it is not going away any time soon. By making sure you are the best virtual teammate you can be, you are positioning yourself to be sought after in any organization.

Be that as it may, while blogging for B2B a quite certain method of correspondence is required. Knowing your intended interest group Like any substance marketeer, it becomes you to make a useful profile of your objective market. Whose eyes would you like to fall upon your substance? Probably you'll be focusing on CEOs or other senior administration figures; key leaders who will settle on the choice whether to depend on your administrations or go across the way to your rivals'. These individuals will probably have various requests upon their available time and consideration and it's dependent upon you to tailor your way to deal with your substance in like manner Keep it short, sharp and forthright Composing with curtness is critical in the realm of B2B content showcasing. Remember that the sort of persuasive chiefs you'll be focusing on will have a lot of shifting requests upon their leisure time and consideration. They will probably expend content in short blasts on their mid-day break, on open vehicle or even while in the washroom. In that capacity, your substance should be immediate, short, sharp and forthright; saying a great deal in a short space of time and conveying an incentive without swimming through a great many words of substance. Each post, video and white paper must offer something of significant worth to your customer base. In the event that you can't do this all alone, that is totally fine, yet redistribute to the sorts of minimal effort low quality substance cultivates that lesser web journals use to help their SEO at your danger. Rather, settle on a business that offers Internet Marketing Services to associations like yours and has a demonstrated re putation of B2B achievement. Regardless of whether you decide to re-appropriate or not, your substance must address clients in an expert limit and offer them not just motivation to hold returning to your site however an update that their needs are in the most ideal hands when they utilize your items and/or administrations. Which carries us to Present them with an issue they routinely… and talk them through illuminating it Because clients get to your substance in their scanty vacation doesn't really imply that they're perusing for the sake of entertainment. They're searching for motivation and answers for the sorts of business situations that they face each day. Should You Include a Summary on Your Resume

Should You Include a Summary on Your Resume Gone are the days of yore of the Objective section at the highest point of a resume. Wherever you look, work masters are demanding that the Synopsis proclamation is the following new thing. Does that mean we should all run out and add one to our resumes? Not actually. googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-advertisement 1467144145037-0'); }); now and again, it's simply an issue of design. Style, not substance. In those cases, it's ideal to oppose the pattern and stick with the conventional. Here's an introduction for deciding if you need a rundown explanationâ€"and, all the more critically, regardless of whether one could help or hurt you.Ask Yourself: Where are you now?Figure out what you would include in the synopsis. Only a refined reiteration of data you as of now have in the body of your resume? Are you simply taking up important land on the page to rehash yourself? If you have an abundance of apparently different encounters that require a touch of setting to integrateâ€"for example you need to include a specific center arrangement of abilities to bind together your activity history, or you have numerous long periods of experience and might want to feature the circular segment of your work venture (otherwise known as, your image)â€" at that point it tends to be a fantastically valuable tool.Ask Yourself: Where would you like to be?Do the essential soul looking to make sense of what you truly need in your next position. What sort of occupation would you say you are after? What aptitudes do you appreciate using the most? What achievements feature those abilities best? What are you enthusiastic about? When you answer these inquiries, you'll be greatly improved arranged to feature the aptitudes and uncommon data that would make you additionally speaking to recruiting directors in that area.Ask Yourself: Where is your industry?Do a touch of legwork to make sense of what your optimal industry is after. What abilities will matter most to recrui ting chiefs in your field? Are these abilities you have, yet maybe aren't clear enough in your work history?Wield your synopsis to show HR you have what they need most. Consider what your greatest selling focuses may be and concentrate on those. Show how interestingly prepared you are to handle their greatest issues and address their greatest needs. Give you care about their center concerns.Craft your statement.Be compact. You have constrained space and you truly would prefer not to simply disgorge the visual cues in your resume. Do whatever it takes not to rehash whatever follows in the Summary. Rather, center around giving important setting, story forming, and amalgamation that will ideally end up being down evolving. Utilize this space to show your potential boss what you bring to the table, yet make a point to target and match that with what they're searching for and need the most.

How Can I Be There for People I Have to Let Go

How Can I Be There for People I Have to Let Go I had a client a while ago who was made redundant, at the time he was provided with outplacement support by his company but chose to also see me independently alongside this. When his next company was making redundancies a few years later, he chose to approach me again to assist these people. Our work together which included more bespoke effective and practical straight to the point assistance led to him wanting these people to have a similar experience. Letting people go is never easy. Being made redundant is often a challenging time but if the correct advice, support, and assistance is provided and a process is worked through by those that are leaving it could be viewed as an opportunity. Here are some additional (and mostly free) ways you could provide additional help to exiting employees. 1. Don’t Rush Can you offer some extra time? Time to reflect, analyze and think through what they are suited to and what they would like to be doing next. It is essential for people to take their time rather than rush into the next thing without thought and reflection. It is ideal if someone can go from one job whilst still employed in another can you offer this? 2. Try and keep positive Redundancy is a widespread occurrence in our changing economy. Reiterating this and asking them to depersonalize it, stay positive and to look after themselves is crucial. Can you offer a plan for them and some assistance and coaching? Possibly resilience coaching? This could be relevant for those leaving but also for those left behind. 3. Put the Work in Finding another job, ensuring all your marketing material (CV/LinkedIn) is impressive plus doing the investigative work on YOU can take time. The more effort and work they put into this the more focussed and ultimately more successful their career transition will be. Can you allow time for this and provide some feedback for example on their CV or LinkedIn profile or time to talk things through? 4. Network It has been documented that a high percentage of people get their next job through their network, can you assist with any introductions? Introductions to agencies, clients, competitors? 5. Build Their Experience Are you able to offer any freelance work or project work in different departments whilst they are looking? Goal Setting 6 Strategies for Success This Year - Classy Career Girl

Goal Setting 6 Strategies for Success This Year As the third week of 2017 quickly passes us, I find myself trying to set some ambitious goals for the year ahead. I am sure some of you are doing the same. But simply writing down goals is not enough. It is equally important to be strategic with them so you can set yourself up for success. I always suggest keeping a birds-eye level view of your goals in plain sight, so you can keep your eyes on them all year long. Do the nitty gritty planning somewhere else, but keep a snapshot of it in plain view! As for the actual process, I have learned a few things that work startlingly well (and some that don’t). Here are my top tips for setting goals so you are positioning yourself for maximum success throughout the year. Goal Setting: 6 Strategies for Success  This Year 1. Categorize Divvy up your life in a few categories that make sense to you. These categories should be the areas of your life you want to work on the next year. For me, it is Business, Health, and Personal Development, because these are the areas I want to make big strides in in 2017. Once you create these categories, write down 4-5 goals in each category. 2. Consolidate to Focus See those 4-5 goals you identified in each category? Now strike them out until only one or two remain in each area. Make sure that only the most meaningful or the ones you are most drawn to remain on your list. What you are doing is consolidating so you can focus  all your attention on those 1 or 2 goals. If you have five goals for example, your focus will be spread thin among the five goals. But if you have 1 or 2 goals, you focus will remain concentrated. This is what top performers do. They focus  on one goal until they get to the desired outcome. And then  they move on to the next. [RELATED: Plan For the New Year the Right Way] 3. Dates, Dates, Dates! This might be the project manager in me screaming to make her voice heard, but DATES are key! When do you want to reach goal A by? When do you want to reach goal B by? 4. Break Them Down Now that you have your goals boiled down to just a few, take each item and break them down into manageable chunks. Try to break them down into as much detail as possible. Use a journal/agenda and really get down to the nitty-gritty tasks and subtasks that need to be completed. This will give you a more realistic view of what is required to actually achieve what you set out to do. My absolute favourite journals are the beautiful Shining Year journals. 5. Be Realistic and Authentic! Type A personalities like to load their plate up with as many things as possible, because they can do it all! My advice and strong recommendation, do not do that! You will be setting yourself up for failure, burnout or low self-esteem when you don’t meet your unrealistic expectations. That is so not what you need. Be authentic in your goal-setting. Your goals should light you up, not burn you out! I have used the Desire Map process for years, to make sure that I set authentic goals that make me squeal with excitement. 6. Keep Plans Fluid Excellent! You have a plan of attack for 2017! However, did you leave some room for say, a brilliant opportunity that came your way? Or perhaps a total 180-degree change in your goals because a key part of your goals just did not pan out like you had envisioned it? Remember to keep your plans slightly fluid so you can adapt and take advantage of some unexpected magic. So there you have it! A solid strategy to plan out your 2017 like the pro that you are. Goal-setting strategically helps you stay on the intended path, rather than letting life toss you around. Who wants that, right? Now tell me, what are your favorite strategies for setting meaningful, successful goals?

Buying vs. Leasing Your Tech Everything You Need to Know - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career

Buying vs. Leasing Your Tech Everything You Need to Know - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career Staying up to date with the new forms of technology can be expensive and overwhelming. If you’re a small-business owner or entrepreneur, it may not be in your budget to purchase new tech every couple of years. This can leave you wondering if it makes more sense for you to buy or lease your equipment. Both buying and leasing tech have their own unique benefits and drawbacks. What is right for you and your company will depend on what you’re looking for. Let’s examine some situations when you may want to consider buying, when you may want to consider leasing and what you need to know to make an informed decision. What You Need to Know About Buying Your Tech When you purchase your technology equipment, it’s yours. You don’t need to worry about making additional payments each month or complying with the rental company’s rules and regulations for making repairs. When you’re done with the tech, you can resell it, repurpose it or even give it away. What you choose to do with the equipment is up to you. Purchasing your equipment also is a deductible expense. You can deduct the full expense of your equipment to save money on taxes. This can make the decision to buy rather than lease much more enticing. Unfortunately, buying does have some downsides. Because you are the owner of the equipment, you’re stuck with it even once it becomes outdated. If you don’t have the funds to purchase a newer version, you may need to deal with older computers, phones or other tech â€" which may hamper your productivity. Buying can also be difficult for new businesses just starting out. When you’re trying to get off the ground, you likely have a lot of other expenses you need to consider. Trying to purchase all new tech can be overwhelming or simply out of the question. What You Need to Know About Leasing Your Tech Leasing can be a better option for some companies and situations, but not all. When you first lease a product, you only need to pay a small fraction of what the tech is worth. This means you can get top-of-the-line technology for a set price each month â€" making you more competitive in your industry. Leasing or renting equipment also provides you with the tech you need for a short period of time. If you do not need a piece of equipment for day-to-day business operations, such as high-tech videoconferencing equipment, leasing can allow you to get what you need for a small chunk of the price. When you enter into a lease agreement, you also know how much money you’ll need to pay each month. Because the monthly payment amount is predetermined during the initial agreement, you won’t be caught off guard with high repair or maintenance payments you didn’t expect. Typically, the price of repairs is worked into your loan terms. However, this also means you’ll end up paying more in the long run. A lease isn’t set up the same way a payment plan is. Traditionally, the total payment you make at the end of your lease period is higher than the actual cost of the equipment â€" and you don’t get to own the product in the end. You make the monthly payments, but you can’t resell the product when you’re done. You’re also required to keep making payments as long as your lease term states. If you only use the equipment for a few months and then decide it isn’t relevant or necessary for your business, you must still make the monthly payment until the term expires. Should You Lease or Buy Your Tech?   There is no clear answer as to whether or not you should lease or buy. However, there are some circumstances when it makes more sense to do one over the other. If the tech is relatively cheap and you can afford to pay for it outright, it’s always a better bet to buy. You should also consider buying equipment if it is crucial for business operations and you don’t believe the investment will quickly become outdated. On the other hand, if you believe you’ll want to replace the equipment every few years, it may be in your best interest to agree to a short-term lease with a renter. Renting or leasing your equipment is also advised if you only need the tech for a very short period of time, such as for a conference or special event. Before you decide whether you should buy or lease your tech, consider your needs and the overall investment. If you believe this piece of equipment will be an essential part of your business success, go ahead and buy. If you see yourself wanting to trade it in for a new model in a year, go with the lease.

How to thrive socially at university if you dont drink - Debut

How to thrive socially at university if you dont drink - Debut This article was written by an external contributor. Chloe Smith is here to help anyone who is worried about making friends at university if they dont drink.   There’s a certain pressure around students and drink its practically expected that if youre at uni, you must enjoy a beer or two to have fun. So if youre not one of them, it could cause you to  shy away from social situations. But heres the tea; you can still have an amazing time on campus without downing a bottle of wine. With the introduction of new events for freshers, the options are practically endless. Heres a few to get you started Do your own thing The most important thing to remember is that you’re perfectly welcome to every single event that your university throws, even if you don’t drink. It might seem difficult if others are  pressuring you, but please try not to let that stop you from socialising and having fun. You can easily go out with your mates and drink soft drinks all night and have just as much fun as those who are drinking alcohol. On the plus side, you’ll remember the events of the night, and you wont wake up in the morning with your head down the toilet! A few bars are also starting a scheme where designated drivers get free drinks so thats a massive financial benefit if you’re able to take that role on. If nowhere local to you is offering it, maybe it’s something you can raise with your students union. That way you can implement it at future events to help non-drinkers feel more welcome on nights out! Go to non-alcohol events Fairly obvious, this one but it still needs to be said. Your university can (and should) offer events where drinking isn’t a prerogative at all. If you don’t feel like going out when others will be drinking, these are perfect. Think film screenings, coffee afternoons, author talks, that kind of thing. Check out your union website to see whats on offer. If nothing comes up, perhaps put in a good word with the staff there its highly likely that you wont be the only student that would benefit from an event such as this. Or better yet, you can volunteer to help start one up. Not only will it help you meet new people, but it will also look great on your CV. Join a society Societies are kind of a holy grail for those of us who go to university and who don’t drink. Not in the sense that they won’t have any events at all where drinking isn’t involved (you are at university, after all) but there will be loads of other options. For example; a society that raises money for charity will focus on things like bucket shakes, fun runs, or even more radical things like adventure challenges. From dance and sport, to debates and media, therell be a group that will work for you. Making friends is just one benefit of joining a society; youll also gain new skills, experience amazing opportunities and boost your employability levels! Hopefully, these tips are helpful for anyone who is joining university as a non-drinker. Dont let others isolate you. There will be something on campus for you to enjoy and have that full student experience. Get out there and explore whats on offer! Download Debut  and  connect with us on  Facebook,  Twitter  and  LinkedIn  for more careers insights.

Sample Resumes For Professional Writing

Sample Resumes For Professional WritingThe college career services that aim to help you find your perfect job will offer resume for professional writing major samples. With this, you can get a great idea of what you should include on your resume, since it consists of your CV or an introduction letter. The samples are not the exact styles and structures you can use in your resume. Your resume has to be your own and unique. One reason why sample resumes are considered important is because these samples are basically the ones used by people who are still working. They know all the ins and outs of the job, and they know how to write a good resume. It would make your resume so much easier to find. With the sample you can make sure that the resume that is sent to the right person is what you want. You would not have to worry that the person on the other end of the phone is not looking for the resume you're sending. One thing that a resume for professional writing major samples don't provide is the writing samples. Most people don't have these, since it requires a skill they don't have. Of course, these samples don't require writing anything, so if you do have writing skills you might not need them. Writing samples are also included in the resume for professional writing major samples. In this way, if you don't have one, there's no reason for you to look and see what else you can find. The problem with sample resumes for writing is that most people think that this is the way to go. In fact, it is possible to go about in the proper fashion, and a resume for professional writing should not look like this. The best approach is to go in the same vein as your writing samples. This means that you write your own resume, but with the samples' style and structure in mind. Keep in mind that the examples are usually old and outdated. You would do well to study the sample resumes before writing your own. They give you the ideas on what you should emphasize and eliminate from your re sume. This could be as simple as taking out one sentence or two to make the whole resume a bit shorter. Other things that you should take note of is the spacing. This should be consistent with the sample. Then, when you have the resume written, just check it over carefully to make sure that it reads and flows right. This isn't a matter of not having the right words, but rather it's an issue of consistency. Another important thing to keep in mind is to have a backup copy in case you mess up. This may sound funny, but sometimes you forget to send out a resume after you've sent it.And of course, when it comes to writing a resume for professional writing, make sure that the information in the resume is all there. Always provide an outline, which is another example of sample resumes. Most people will send out their resumes without a handbook or outline, so you will be well-advised to put something together.

Labor Day 2016 4 Changing Law Could Affect Your Paycheck

Labor Day 2016 4 Changing Law Could Affect Your Paycheck Labor Day marks the unofficial end of summer and one of the biggest shopping weekends of the year. But there’s more to this holiday held on the first Monday each September â€" and it has to do with your paycheck. Between the Affordable Care Act and changes to overtime pay, you might be seeing changes in your paycheck. Whether for better or worse, here are four ways your paycheck is changing. The Final Rule on Overtime Pay In May 2016, President Obama announced the Final Rule updating overtime laws, a change that will affect more than 4 million American workers over the next year. The Final Rule focuses on changing salary and compensation levels for executive, administrative and professional workers to be exempt from overtime pay, defined as one and a half times your normal hourly rate for all hours worked beyond 40 in a regular work week. With this change, workers will need to earn a minimum of $47,476 per year, or $913 per week, to be exempt from overtime pay, effective Dec. 1, 2016. Compare this to the current $23,660 per year, or $455 per week, salary minimum that was set in 2004. Close Modal DialogThis is a modal window. This modal can be closed by pressing the Escape key or activating the close button. Read: What’s Hillary Clinton’s Plan for the Middle Class? The Final Rule’s increased salary level will result in bigger paychecks for many Americans who did not receive overtime before. However, some employers might make changes that could shrink employees’ paychecks. For instance, your employer could simply change your salary to the newly-increased minimum of $47,476 to avoid paying you overtime. Or, you could be required to log your hours more diligently and not go over 40 hours a week so as to not receive overtime pay. 2016 Minimum Wage Jump for Federal Contractors Under Executive Order 13658, the Department of Labor increased the minimum wage for federal contractors to $10.15 per hour, effective Jan. 1, 2016 through Dec. 31, 2016. Covered tipped employees are now required to receive a wage of at least $5.85 per hour, as well, and if a worker’s combined wage and cash tips do not meet the $10.15 per hour minimum, the contractor must make up the difference by increasing wages paid. 2010 Affordable Care Act An estimated 15 million Americans were self-employed in 2015, and as of July 2016, nearly 7.8 million were unemployed. Although the Affordable Care Act affects has affected all Americans, the 2010 law could be weighing down, in particular, the savings of self-employed and unemployed Americans. Under the Affordable Care Act, commonly referred to as Obamacare, if you are self-employed or unemployed and can afford health care but choose not to buy it, you’ll end up paying a fee called an individual shared responsibility payment. You’ll owe this fee for any and all months you, your spouse or tax dependents aren’t covered by health insurance. Read: 10 Ways to Survive Rising Health Care Costs In 2016, the fee for not having health insurance is the greater of: 2.5 percent of your household income, with the maximum totaling the annual premium for a Bronze health care plan; or $695 per adult and $347.50 per child under 18, with the maximum being $2,085 This fee has increased over the years, too. In 2015, it was 1 percent of your household income or $325 per adult and $162.50 per child. 2009 Minimum Wage Change The federal minimum wage was set to $7.25 in 2009, resulting in full-time minimum wage workers seeing a monthly income increase of $120. Prior to this update, the federal minimum wage was changed to $6.55 per hour in 2008 and $5.85 per hour in 2007. The federal minimum wage, established by the Fair Labor Standards Act, is an important factor to consider when looking at the American economy. An estimated 870,000 workers ages 16 and older earned exactly the federal minimum wage in 2015, while 1.7 million were paid wages below the minimum wage, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. When the federal minimum wage was increased in 2009, millions of workers across 30 states saw more money in their paychecks. Read: See How Far Your Paycheck Goes in the 10 Biggest U.S. Cities As of March 2016, 29 states and the District of Columbia had minimum wages higher than the current federal minimum. This year, New York City and the District of Columbia both passed laws to increase the minimum wage to $15 per hour by 2018 and 2020, respectively. California passed a similar law to increase the minimum wage to $15 for employers with 26 or more employees by Jan. 1, 2023. Some larger cities, such as Seattle and Chicago, have voted to incrementally increase the city’s minimum rate to $15 an hour, as well. With more states and cities voting on $15 per hour rates, workers across the country could see significant increases in their paychecks in the future.
