The Final Rule focuses on changing salary and compensation levels for executive, administrative and professional workers to be exempt from overtime pay, defined as one and a half times your normal hourly rate for all hours worked beyond 40 in a regular work week. With this change, workers will need to earn a minimum of $47,476 per year, or $913 per week, to be exempt from overtime pay, effective Dec. 1, 2016. The Final Rule’s increased salary level will result in bigger paychecks for many Americans who did not receive overtime before. However, some employers might make changes that could shrink employees’ paychecks.
